Calling all space invaders, astronauts, aliens and other intergalactic
crusaders of the dance floor. Science Fiction and underground rave culture
have had a tight connection that goes way back. We present to you another
fancy dress night. Let’s get more spaced out than Neil Armstrong ever did
!!

The secret sonic Deep Cutz space program we have been running for years is
now about to hit the streets as it’s time to present it to our raving fam.
The program roughly consists of the following spearheads:

- The development of break beat science
- The promotion of psycho audiology
- The mythopoetics of the junglenaut
- The terrorization of gravity
- The encouragement of space piracy
- The glorification of the sub-sonic bassline

Ultimately reaching our goal of squatting the moon for low gravity raves !!

Forget Apollo, NASA and the Space Shuttle... the most exciting explorations
of space in the last 30 years have been carried out through electronic
music. The Deep Cutz space program has accumulated extensive evidence of
near-flight experiences on the dance floor. Participants typically report
sensations of "rushing", of accelerating velocity, of the body tracing a
line of flight and of leaving behind "the real world" and establishing a
direct connection with the wider universe. There are clear parallels here
with the effects on the body and the euphoric feelings of escaping gravity
associated with "lift off' by more traditional means.

At Deep Cutz HQ we have conducted a whole range of tests with bass heavy
sound system driven music. Our hypothesis was that a continual acceleration
in beats per minute and increasing the bass weight would enable us to reach
earth's escape velocity and take off. Unfortunately, after prolonged
uninterrupted exposure to these tests the ship began to break up and
several participants showed signs of exhaustion and in some cases nausea.
Future experiments will attempt to reduce the risk of side effects by
introducing greater variety and rhythmic complexity. We at Deep Cutz HQ
strife for the impossible to reach the absurd...

By organizing raves on earth we can create conditions that prefigure
autonomous communities in space. To do this we have to neutralize the
negative effects of various black holes which suck energy out of raving
counter cultures, such as getting event permits and strict regulation by
babylonian forces. This will be the focus of the next stage of the Deep
Cutz space program.

For next rave star date 17032012 located 51°51′N 005°50′E we will bring you
inna DIY style a true sound system driven night of hype free forward
thinking underground UK BASS music. Space is the place, can you feel the
rush?!

Zodiak Commune viert achttiende verjaardag in Waalhalla Nijmegen

De Eindhovense organisatie Zodiak Commune is wellicht wat laat met haar eigen 18e verjaardag, maar dat wordt op de bijzondere datum 3.03 weer dubbel en dwars goed gemaakt met een heus on-verjaardags feest in Waalhalla te Nijmegen. Tijdens ‘EIGHTEEN +’ staat je wereld van 22.00u tot 06.00u compleet op zijn kop met een sterk programma dat het beste uit de underground naar boven brengt.

Gingen op 7 januari dit jaar tijdens Update 2.0.12 nog de voetjes van de heilige grond van het Natlab in Eindhoven – waar meer dan een halve eeuw geleden de allereerste symfonie van elektronische geluidjes en bliepjes voortgebracht werd – op zaterdag 3 maart 2012 neemt Zodiak Commune je mee naar de stad waar ze vijftien jaar geleden haar legendarische Liquid Foundation feesten organiseerde in het Kolpinghuis. De oude TDK bandjes met zure Acid als enige herinnering aan die tijd kunnen weer terug de kast in, want tijdens ‘EIGHTEEN +’ ga je het in Waalhalla gewoon weer opnieuw beleven. Want al heeft de muziek zich sindsdien verder ontwikkeld en hebben de DJ’s nog vele andere podia bestegen, allen zijn ze trouw gebleven aan de eigenzinnige, maar toegankelijke underground vibe waar Zodiak Commune al meer dan 18 jaar bekend om staat.

Voor één nacht wordt Waalhalla omgetoverd tot de wereld van Zodiak Commune, waar niks is wat het is en alles is wat het niet is. Zit de drive er aan het begin van de avond in de grote zaal al lekker in met bijtende Acid bleeps en trippy Techno, de razende Tekno trein zal later op de avond meer dan alleen de wijzers van de klok rond laten tollen. Ook in het Dubstep & Drum ’n Bass café beleef je een alles behalve onbewogen avond in een atmosfeer waar ruige bassen, snerpende hi-hats en andere woeste geluiden de dienst uit maken. Wil je even aan het feestgedruis ontsnappen voor wat rust, ruimte en een gezellig praatje? Dan kun je je terugtrekken in de Space Out. Hier geen hysterische theekransjes met gekke hoeden, maar een oase van kabbelende beats en dampende soundscapes.

Have a nice day is terug en hoe! Een half jaar na de zevende doldwaze zomer editie kunnen we niet nog eens zes maanden wachten tot het achtste Have A Nice Day Festival in Eibergen, daarom breekt er 4 februari een nieuw hoofdstuk aan in het culturele sprookje genaamd: Have An Ice Day.

Aangezien het 4 februari hartje winter is zullen we het zonder openlucht theater, boot tochtjes over de Berkel en de frisse plattelandslucht van Eibergen moeten doen, de Karavaan trekt namelijk zuidwaarts richting de muzikale hoofdstad van het Oosten; Nijmegen. Waar wij in de inmiddels alom bekende Waalhalla zeven uur lang helemaal ons zelf kunnen zijn. Dit doen wij op de muziek van alle crews die samen Have A Nice Day Festival ( HAND) maken tot wat het nu is!

So you think you can Skate!

Dus jij denkt dat Jij kan Skaten, laat maar zien tijdens de tweede editie van ‘So you think You can Skate” op 7 Januari 2012 in Waalhalla. Op haar voorgaande editie werd alles uit de kast gehaald, zo ging de Nederlandse skate legende Hans van Dorssen er met de eerste plaats van door. Op dezelfde wijze ging Robbin Oost er met de Best Trick op zijn naam vandoor. Wie zal er aan het begin van het nieuwe jaar bewijzen dat hij daadwerkelijk trucken gooien kan. Tijdens ‘So you think you can skate’ gaan we jongens onderscheiden van de mannen met een ‘All skate’ constest. Ook voor de 15 jaar en jonger zijn er mogelijkheden tot presteren, tijdens deze harde ‘All skate’ wedstrijd.

Iedereen gaat lekker skaten, word je naam omgeroepen dan kom je het skate-vestje halen en GO!

Elke skater krijgt 3 minuten om zijn Run te skaten. Dan gaan de Beste 12 skaters door naar de halve finale. Dan krijgt elke skater weer 3 minuten om zich te kwalificeren voor de Finale. De Finale word door 5 gasten geJamed met een Jam van 15 minuten. Top 3 gaan met prijzen naar huis! Succes!
